Thoughts, details about what we're doing, general music stuff.
4th grades have been "upping" their rhythm reading by speaking different rhythm patterns as a class. Each class is in friendly competition with the other 4th grade classes that I teach. (Yesterday, two classes got 30 out of 30 correct! Yeah!) The class reads 30 different 4-beat rhythm patterns off of the screen while listening to the song "Popcorn" to help them keep the steady beat. It's been fun seeing the kids trying really hard, working together, and getting so excited when they improve over the last time.

Second grade is also working on their musical, Swamped! The performance is on November 7th. This week they are learning song 5 of 6 songs, and next week we will hold auditions for speaking parts. I tell students that I am looking for loud, clear voices, and slow, even speaking tone. I will be sending home a note telling all about the musical next week! After next week, our goal will be to continue to memorize the words to the songs, learn choreography, and work on speaking parts in class. |
