Thoughts, details about what we're doing, general music stuff.
We have snow today, and it's April 15th!! So crazy. This month, the 5th graders travel the world through music, learning a bit about each country we visit and various cultures, history, flora and fauna, dances, and songs. It's definitely my favorite unit of study. Last week was Australia, this week is Russia, and next week, well...they'll have to tune in to find out!
Oh, in case any 5th graders are reading this, here's a link to the video by David Hudson about how to make a didgeridoo: Making a Didgeridoo The 4th graders are busily preparing themselves for the music concert next week. Our theme is "Positively Pop," each class will sing one pop song (with a positive theme) and play one song on recorder. All students will be singing together at the beginning and end of the program. The illustrious Ms. Kriewaldt, one of our own 4th grade teachers, has designed simple choreography for us to do. First and Second grades continue with Game Plan. I have really come to love this music curriculum! The students are moving, singing, speaking, creating, and playing instruments every week. The songs are kept simple, which makes for easy instrument accompaniment. 1st grade is playing a song "Drip Drop" with classroom instruments (although today I would have figured out a way to make the song about SNOW instead of RAIN!) and 2nd grade is making a word chain "menu" to go with a word poem called "A Thousand Hungry Savages." So much fun!
